The Division of Architecture at the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture, University of Oklahoma, seeks a 9-month, full-time Ranked Renewable Term Faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor (RRT). Home to the American School of Architecture, and grounded in rigorous research, creative practice, and community engagement – the Division educates future generations of architects, designers, and leaders, who embrace resourcefulness and experimentation with a keen sense of social purpose. We seek individuals whose teaching and design agenda complement our legacy of pedagogical innovation, and who will contribute to sustaining the Division at the forefront of design research and education.
Position Overview:
We are looking for faculty with expertise in Beginning Design Pedagogy
The successful candidate will possess excellent pedagogical skills and demonstrate innovative and effective methods of teaching the fundamentals of architecture and principles of design with emphasis on representation, communication, and craft.
Successful candidates should demonstrate excellent collaboration skills and a clear interest in engaging with other Gibbs College disciplines, faculty of the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education, Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts, and/or the Gallogly College of Engineering, and beyond.
Responsibilities:
- Teach architectural studios, seminars, and lecture courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
- Engage in aspects of curriculum and pedagogy consistent with program goals and accreditation guidelines
- Participate in division, university, and community-based service
Required Qualifications:
- A professional graduate degree (or international equivalent) in architecture or related field, OR a minimum of 10 years professional experience paired with an accredited bachelor degree (or international equivalent) in architecture
- Evidence of ability to successfully teach architecture studios, seminars, and lecture courses
Demonstrated ability to contribute to our collegial and collaborative working environment, and possessing effective communication and inter-personal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cross-disciplinary teaching and service efforts in architecture or a related discipline
- Evidence of successful collaborations in teaching or community engagement
- Record of awards or other publicly acknowledged design or community engagement work
